Edwards Family RootsAfter moving his family from Gogebic, MI to Iron, MI (circa 1910), Captain James Perry Edwards began construction on the Edwards farmhouse in 1910 and completed the main building in 1912 (estimated based on several markings that were found on interior windows and boards). James's wife Ida E (Weiser) Edwards was living in Amasa, MI in 1912, along with her son Herbert William Edwards (alias "Billie", a.k.a. "Herbie", born 1897) and sister Percy J Edwards (born 1882).
There are records of both Percy and Ida living in Alpha, Michigan in 1940. Amasa, MI - View of Main St. (circa 1904)
Acquisition of the Property
During hunting trips to Michigans upper penninsula in the 1960's, my grandfather learned about some property for sale in Hematite Township. TBD
FarmhouseA traditional Balloon Style framing method was used and it is likely that the rough cut materials were harvested from the local forests. It has been very difficult to find much information about this man and the history surrounding the farm. Google led me to a book called "A History of Amasa (1891-1966)" by Doris Peryam which has been out of print for many years. |
